December 6th, 2012 - Four Honors Phsyics students from GK-12 Teacher, Kathy Melious', class at Andrews High School recently presented their research at theAmerican Association of Physics Teachers Joint Meeting at High Point University. Their project is entitled -- Using a Spark Timer to Measure Impulse of Model Rockets. Senior Shan Faizi was interviewed about his experience in this video by the Guilford County School System: Andrews Students Research Presentation at HPU. Congratulations Kathy and Patrick!


November 20th, 2012 - How Green is the Greenway? Using Field Research as a Teaching Tool. Kathy Melious and Patrick Healy Presented at the Annual meeting of Physics Teachers, High Point, NC November 2012.


October 23rd, 2012 - The GK-12 Project Director, Lynn Sametz, and Resident Scientist, Jennifer Braswell Alford, will be presenting the GK-12 Project 'Transforming Minds in a Transitioning Community' at the Bridging the Gap Conference in Raleigh, NC on October 23rd, 2012.


Greenway Day Activity Stations

April 21st, 2012 - The 2nd Annual Greenway Day was held on April 21st, 2012 and was a great success! Over 150 people came to the local event and it was great to see kids of all ages in the Creek, gardening, and participating in science experiments.


March 7th, 2012 - Jacob Turner and James Lynch from Welborn Academy of Science and Technology were awarded a Lowe's Education grant from the Lowe's Charitable and Education Foundation (LCEF) in the amount of $4,335 for their project: "Welborn Geolab and Greenway Mapping Project." Congratulations Jacob and James!


March 6th, 2012 - GK-12 teacher, Christal MacLamroc, was selected to receive a Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) Promoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics (PRISM) grant in the amount of $3,500. Her project was titled: "A Field Study of various Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems along High Point's Greenway." and Wellborn Middle will receive the funds to improve the education experience of the children at Wellborn Middle. Congratulations Christal and your class!


February 28th, 2012 - Kathy Melious has been selected by Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) for a Promoting Innovation in Science and Mathematics (PRISM) grant in the amount of $2,890. Her class' project -- "How Green is the Greenway" was selected among many entries and the money will go the their school, T Wingate Andrews High School. "Through these PRISM grants, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund seeks to support K-12 teachers in their efforts to promote excitement for science and mathematics by providing grants for materials, equipment, and supplies related to the implementation of high quality, hands-on science and/or mathematics curriculum or activities in the classroom." Congratulations Kathy and your class!


February 8th, 2012 - Courtnie James' class was recently featured on local news channel, News 14 Carolina, when they took a trip to the Greenway to race their handmade boats in an exercise that taught them about speed and water-displacement.
